SAGO PALM

The Presidents Walk and Southard Court community is located in the Truman Annex Complex which is located 2 blocks from Duval Street and all of the Old Town Key West attractions. The properties are also located less than a half mile from one of the best beaches on the island. The Presidents Walk properties are two level townhouses which have private courtyards on the first level and balconies on the second level. Outdoor Grill. Each bedroom has one queen size bed. All properties are outfitted with washer/dryer, pots and pans, towels and linens, have central air conditioning, off street parking and pool access.

  This was our first stay at Sago Palm. The location can’t be beat and it was a quiet unit with respectful neighbors. Many great places within walking distance or a short bike ride away. Truman Annex is the best place to stay. The unit was very clean, and I have high standards when renting vacation homes! The sofa was super comfy. We knew it was outdated, but a few simple upgrades like fresh coats of paint, trimming back of trees on the patio, & new shower heads would go a long way. We would consider staying here again for the right price.

  We have stayed at Truman condos for the last six years. Unfortunately, this unit disappointed. The upstairs carpeting was absolutely filthy, covered with huge stains. The stove was probably 40 years old and half of the burners did not work. Although we had a washer and dryer, 2 towels per bathroom is unacceptable. The entire unit looks like it has never been updated. Also, the kitchen had a bug problem that worsened as the week went on. Would NOT recommend when there are so many great options available within the resort.

  The property overall is super clean, close to everything, and the A/C works great in the summer heat. I communicated the need for cosmetic touch-ups in the unit to the management company, and they received the feedback well.   Our overall stay was good. The unit was dated, but adequate and the location was great. The pool always seemed to be crowded. The Orkin man let himself into our unit unannounced as we were showering on Wednesday. When calling the office, they said we should have received an email notification which we did not. This was quite unnerving.

  Sago is located in Truman Annex, which is an excellent location to the action on Duval St. Neighbors are great, pool good, and decorated nicely for Christmas. The unit was clean and ready for us. Compass Reality was on top of the entire stay. The unit however is in desperate need of a make-over. I don't believe much has been changed since it was built. Examples: Microwave works great, however no turntable. This appliance is well over 30 years old. Kitchen cabinets should be replaced, as well as countertops. Both bathrooms while functional, are in need of an update. One of the faucets (original to the unit I'd bet) is very difficult to even turn on and off. Lighting in the bathrooms is poor. The 32" TV's are way too small, especially in the family room. The parking space is a plus. Patio and grill are nice as well. With a makeover this would make a good stay, a GREAT one.

The only concern we had was the table lamp in our room, the only way to turn it on was to have to plug it in behind the nightstand because the switch was broken.   At first I thought the place had not been upgraded at all, but into my stay I decided maybe new owners, or owners who now were trying to improve the home. I noticed new utensils in the kitchen, new carpet upstairs, nice artwork (Audubon prints). The tv service in one BR needs to be upgraded, the TP needs to be upgraded, the kitchen and bath need to be update. All the above to be competitive with the other rental properties in which I have stayed. High marks for location and the pool.

  I can’t evaluate Manatee at Truman Annex, because although we rented it, and we paid for it, we were switched by Compass Realty into a totally different unit. Compass requires a contract that contains a clause that essentially says that Compass can put you in any unit they want, for almost any reason, and if the customer challenges it, Compass is the sole arbiter of the matter.
  Here’s what happened in our case. We booked Manatee as it is all on one level and my wife has difficulty climbing stairs. We received check-in instructions one week before check in. I called Compass within an hour of receiving the instruction because it looked to me as though we were switched. I spoke to a woman at Compass who assured me that we would be in the unit we booked, and that “my confusion” was because the listing site uses “approximate” addresses, and they likely used the address of the nearby guard shack. Taking her word for it, we arrived on check in day and were given keys. Upon arrival at the unit, it was clear we had been switched. The biggest problem was a two-story with both bedrooms on the second floor, and a very steep stair.
  I called the Compass office and a male who answered did acknowledge that we were placed in another unit. He also gave me a verbal finger wagging, and was delighted to say, “you signed a contract” with an implied nanananana. We spent a week in the other unit and my wife was forced to sleep on a sofa on the first level.
  I do admit that I only did a cursory scan of the contract and was legally duped by Compass. The one thing I don’t understand is why the woman lied when I called. She knew just like the verbal finger wagger that we had signed their contract and they had us roped and tied.

  Four of us seniors rented the Sago Palm for a week in late May. We absolutely loved the location, it is just a few blocks from Duval street and you can easily walk to almost any destination on Duval Street. The condo was very nice with nice furniture and comfortable beds. Plus the air-conditioning worked very well. We didn't cook much but the kitchen was stocked with anything you would need. Compass Realty was very helpful and took care of any of our requests. We especially liked Marissa who was very helpful and suggested several great restaurants for us to try. I would recommend Compass Realty and the Sago Palm to anyone traveling to Key West.

  The first thing that impressed me was being able to park my car right in front of the gate to our patio! Covered parking, very rare in Key West. So much outdoor space! A large patio, front porch and 2 upstairs balconies. The unit was very clean and stocked with everything we needed. Each bedroom upstairs had it’s own bathroom and a half bath downstairs. The furniture was new and comfortable. We could easily walk to the farmer’s market, the Coast Guard Cutter, Mallory Square, Duval, Ft. Zachary Taylor park, the water front. I only drove the car once to buy groceries at the Navy Commissary. It was only a short walk to the Truman waterfront to watch the sunset. We throughly enjoyed this unit and the location.
