A SUNRISE COTTAGE

This charming 2 story 2 bedroom with loft, two bath cottage in the Shipyard Condominiums is located just off the pool and gorgeous park. Both bathrooms have been recently updated! The first floor bedroom and bath are conveniently located just off the kitchen. Enjoy the very comfortable living room with a dining area that enjoys view through two sets of French doors to the rear deck and garden. The primary suite on the second floor enjoys a queen bed, plus a sitting area which includes a murphy bed. The large covered rear deck features out door dining and lounging and a back gate which provides quick access to the rest of the community and the park.
The Shipyard Condominiums are located in the prestigious gated community of Truman Annex in Key West’s Old Town area. These condos are located just 2 blocks from Duval Street and all the Old Town Key West attractions including Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and Beach and the Truman Waterfront park. This property is outfitted with washer/dryer, pots/pans, towels, linens, central air conditioning, assigned off street parking, and access to a refreshing community pool.

  Outside table, chairs, and deck were covered with some type of dark residue that transferred to shoes, feet, clothing and there was nothing (hose) to clean it off with. A real mess. Wouldn't describe as "well equipped." Kitchen had 1 dish towel, 5 forks. Living area was nice. Pick up and drop off of keys was inconvenient could be easily addressed with a drop box. Would not recommend.

  Despite being in a fantastic location, the lack of maintenance would keep me from returning to A Sunrise Cottage. It was unfortunate that the previous renter's post did not post until after we arrived because it was spot on. The linens were in need of replacement, the master suite bed's headboard was not connected to the bedframe and the mattress felt like a Marshmallow on a cot. If you sat on the foot of the bed the head of the bed popped up. The towel hook in the master bath was coming out of the wall, the ceiling fan made a horrible sound all night making it impossible to sleep through the night. The kitchen faucet was broken and the bottom drawer pull was missing. The chairs and sofa could use a good cleaning. The deck could have been a pleasant place to sit with great furniture; however, the mess from the chickens and iguanas left an awful barnyard stench. Never experienced such a mess in all the years staying in Truman Annex. Compass Realty was unresponsive to a call that I made up on my arrival.

  This cottage has seen better days; in one word it is beat. Leaking sink and broken exhaust fan in bathroom, upstairs bathroom we stopped using because the shower handle was so hard to turn off and on, missing kitchen cabinet handle, broken faucet in kitchen, worn out towels and pillows. This property needs sprayed for bugs as well. Patio had no hose to clean off the constant droppings from chickens and Iguanas.

  We locked in a three week stay at Sunrise Cottage and the week before the trip, I emailed Marissa asking her to have the place sprayed for bugs in which she indicated it was just recently sprayed. Upon arriving we killed a number of roaches (they call them palmetto bugs) so I called and was told they would send Orkin to spray. Unfortunately if Orkin did come over to respray, the palmetto bugs continued to roam our place so I called again and was told to give it time?? As that week rolled forward, we sprayed ourselves and attempted to vacuum and clean the place with a bleach spray which seemed to disrupt the place further and now we were seeing what I believe were termites. At this point it was getting out of hand so I personally went to Compass to complain where I originally approached Marissa at which time I was told they cant do anything about it, that is part of vacationing in Key West?? Than to add fuel to the fire, another blonde haired realtor (I assumed was Marissa's boss) literally said to me "Maybe Key West is not a place for you"! Seriously!!!! Are you kidding me? So, in essence, she would expect RENTERS to be OK with roaches and termites????
  One final note, we met quite a few people at the pool and posed the question to them, "are you seeing roaches (palmetta bugs) and termites in your places and no one including those that owned and/or rented said they did?
  So, we did not have a good experience and if you are fine with bugs and a response of "Maybe Key West is not the place for you" (truly, this was the response from this older blonde haired realtor) I would advise you to ask many questions about bugs.

  We love staying in Truman Annex. We did have an issue with cleanliness this year but Compass Realty took care of it right away. There is rarely an issue with any of the units we've stayed in. One year the washer broke and Compass sent a new one over within 24 hours and gave us a key to do laundry in an unoccupied unit. That immediate response is why we rent through Compass. The property is beautiful and quiet but a 2 minute walk to Duval. We wouldn't rent elsewhere.

  Overall the cottage was wonderful. I loved the location. I had only two concerns with upstairs bathroom the flooring needed tender loving care mold around the edges. The linens of the king size bed needed better inspection. The bottom sheet and mattress pad were stained. I did not realize this until I stripped bed covers at end of trip. I think a linen service should be used. We had a beautiful rooster and hen visit every morning while having coffee on the back patio. I have been to Key west many times and this location is the best to go to restaurants & entertainment. Too many good restaurants to name. blue Heaven is two blocks away and has great food and across the street from Blue Heaven is a French restaurant which is also great. I definitely would recommend this cottage and area to stay for your visit to Key West.

  Great location and very comfortable. The living room rug was stained and not clean but maybe the owners don't realize it. I put a blanket on the rug when I was on the rug. Living room and bedroom floors should be mopped but it was easy enough to do it myself. I am renting the same unit next year.

  The good: the location is perfect. Close to everything, a bike ride away to the beach, shops, the water, restaurants, museums. We didn’t move our car all week.
  Very quiet. Beds were comfy. Quality towels and sheets.
  The ok - kitchen is tiny. If you want to cook, this wouldn’t be the rental for you.
  The upstairs area is spacious, but there’s no privacy. The fan in the upstairs was very loud, and sounded as if it might need a repair.
  Space was moderately clean, but I think this is an area that could be improved.
  Overall, we had a great week.

  We've stayed at a lot of places in the Annex, it's the only place we stay in KW and this was by far one of the best. We've used Compass many times and they are always easy and professional to work with. The condo is in a great location, great condition, great outdoor space, could have used a grill but not sure if they are allowed in the condo section. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. If there was anything to complain about and there wasn't really, the kitchen was tiny and only one person at a time could fit but not a big deal at all, we managed just fine.

  Our family of 6 stayed here for a week and it was very enjoyable. Being here in July we knew it would be hot and humid with rain so we wanted to have space and comfort while indoors. Grandparents stayed in the bedroom downstairs while we stayed in the room upstairs. There’s a loft with a pull down full size bed. We brought an air mattress for our young kids and it was enough space in the loft for it instead of using the full size bed. Everything is as pictured. The dining room chairs are newer than pictured. The shower drain in the upstairs bathroom drains slower. The water hose in the back deck didn’t work. The microwave door handle was half broken. The outdoor deck table and chairs were quite dirty when we wiped it down but that's probably unavoidable being outside. No major issues. Plenty of beach towels for us to use. Extra pillows and sheets. There were three beach chairs and some pool noodles we used for beach days. It also had puzzles, books, cards to play. Kitchen had cooking pots pans utensils. We didn’t cook so only used the plates and cups for take outs. Wine glasses are also available. Also had a cooler tote to carry some water to the beach. We really enjoyed our stay. Close to lots of attractions and short walk to the Truman water park which was free and there’s also a bus stop there for the free Duval loop bus. Would definitely consider this property again for future stays.

  Overall, the property was good. The kitchen is very small and is not very well stocked for cooking. We stayed for two weeks and I had to buy a frying pan in order to cook dinners for my family. The walls appear dirty and the ceiling fan upstairs has some issues including black material where the fan connects to the ceiling. The fan also clicks at night and can be distracting if you are trying to sleep. The bathrooms are small but were in good working order. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely. The house is convenient to Duval and the attractions. The furniture and beds are comfortable and we slept well. It is very close to the pool which was nice and had a sufficient number of chairs for guests.

  Family vacation with daughters, in laws, and friends. Enjoyed snorkeling tour and Dry Tortugas trip which included some fantastic snorkeling. Ate a lot of seafood, went to several happy hours at various locations, also saw several sunsets at Mallory Swuare. Olympic Really enjoyed the Truman Little White House tour. We all got the most enjoyment from riding our bicycles pretty much everywhere we went. We’ve been to Key West several times for extended stays, and enjoyed this location the best.

  This place was PERFECT. In a great location, within walking distance to beach and Duval St. where all the action is. Has all the amenities you need and very quiet facility. Well maintained grounds and a pool right across the way from this unit. Really liked that it was an end unit, made it feel that much more private! Would recommend highly!
